- Standardised to 36% anthocyanins
Anthocyanins (also called anthocyanosides) have been extensively documented in the scientific literature. Anthocyanins are found naturally in a number of foods. They can be found in red wine, and certain leafy and root vegetables (aubergines, cabbage, beans, onions, radishes), but Bilberry is one of the richest sources of anthocyanins with a very unique anthocyanin profile that is not present in others.
- Extracted from Wild Berries
Unlike most other berries, Bilberries cannot be cultivated, they grow in wild. Also unlike other berries they do not produce fruits in clusters but only as single or rarely as twin. Wild crafted and harvested when ripe between July and September; the extract is made from fresh-frozen berries. It grows wild in the Northern European forests. its fruits are not produced in clusters, but only as single, or rarely, twin fruit.
- Parts used Whole Berries
Bilberries are softer and juicier than most other berries, and therefore more susceptible to damage and more difficult to transport. Also, they can't be processed unfrozen since tissue damage triggers destabilization of anthocyanins.
